Kennewick is a city in Benton County, WA, located along the southwest bank of the Columbia River, just southeast of the confluence of the Columbia and Yakima rivers. It is the most populous of the three cities known as the Tri-Cities (the others being Pasco and Richland), with a population of over 84,700 souls as of 2022.
Initially, the land Kennewick sits on was ceded by the Umatilla and Yakama tribes at the Walla Walla Council in 1855, with ranchers proceeding to work with cattle and horses in the region as early as the 1860s. During the 1880s, steamboats and railroads connected what would become Kennewick to other settlements along the Columbia River, and rail freight from Minneapolis to Tacoma went through the area.
A highlight of the region is the Gesa Carousel of Dreams, a meticulously restored 108-year-old Charles Carmel hand-carved wooden carousel, brimming with charm and nostalgia. Columbia Park comprises several hundred acres of riverfront land, great for the entire family, sports events, or just blowing off steam.
